Wrought iron is one of those fence styles that just does everything well. It looks sharp from the street, it holds up for decades, and it gives your property real security without boxing you in. We install wrought iron fences across Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Duncanville.

If you’ve been thinking about iron fencing for your front yard, pool area, or full property line, here’s what you need to know before you pull the trigger.

Why Go With Wrought Iron

Most people come to us for wrought iron because they want something that looks good and lasts. A custom wood fence installation needs staining every few years. Vinyl can crack in Texas heat. Iron just sits there and does its job.

A quality wrought iron fence, properly installed with powder-coated or galvanized materials, can last 20 to 30 years with minimal upkeep. You’re not replacing pickets. You’re not dealing with rot. You wash it down once or twice a year and maybe touch up a scratch if you find one.

It also doesn’t block your sightlines. If you’ve got nice landscaping or you want to keep eyes on the front yard, iron gives you security without turning your property into a fortress.

Styles We Install

Flat Top (Clean, Modern Profile)

Straight vertical pickets with a flat rail across the top. This style works on just about every home style. Simple, clean, and easy to pair with our gate and access control options.

Best for: front yards, side property lines, contemporary homes.

Spear Top (Traditional Look)

Each picket ends in a pointed finial. It’s the classic wrought iron look you picture when someone says “iron fence” and its the most popular style we install. It adds a little extra security too, since the pointed tops discourage climbing.

Best for: traditional homes, properties where security matters, front yard curb appeal.

Ring & Scroll (Ornamental / Decorative)

Decorative rings, scrolls, or twisted picket designs between the rails. This is where wrought iron really separates itself from the other fence types we install. If you want your fence to be a design feature, not just a boundary, this is the move.

Best for: estate-style homes, corner lots with high visibility, anyone who wants their fence to stand out.

Puppy Picket / Reduced Spacing

Tighter picket spacing at the bottom keeps small dogs and kids from squeezing through. Same clean look up top, just extra coverage down low where it counts.

Best for: pet owners, families with young children.

Pool Fencing (Code-Compliant)

Texas requires pool barriers to meet specific height and spacing codes. We build wrought iron fences that meet every pool fence code requirement in the DFW area, including self-closing, self-latching gates. Keeps it legal and keeps it looking good.

Best for: backyard pools, hot tub enclosures, any water feature that needs a code-compliant barrier.

Heights & Sizing

4-Foot: Common for front yards and decorative borders. Defines the property line without overwhelming the house.

5-Foot: A solid middle ground. Enough height for real security, still proportional on most residential lots.

6-Foot: Maximum privacy and security for side and back yards. Often paired with a masonry base or columns for a high-end look.

Materials & Finish

Galvanized Steel

Hot-dip galvanized iron resists rust from the inside out. This is your base layer of protection, and it matters a lot in North Texas where we get humidity, rain, and irrigation overspray hitting fences daily.

Powder Coating

Applied over the galvanized base, powder coating gives you color options (black is by far the most popular) and an extra barrier against scratches and UV fade. It’s tougher than regular paint and holds up years longer.

Custom Color Options

Black is standard, but we can do bronze, dark bronze, white, or custom colors to match your home’s trim or stonework. Just let us know what you’re after.

Gates & Access

Walk Gates: Single swing gates for side yards, garden entries, and front walkways. Self-closing hinges and heavy-duty latches standard.

Driveway Gates: Double swing or sliding gates for vehicle access. We build these with steel frames sized to your driveway width.

Automated Gate Options: Electric openers with remote, keypad, or app control. If you want the convenience of opening your gate from the car, we can set that up.

All gates get the same finish and style as your fence panels so everything matches. Hardware is commercial-grade, not the lightweight stuff you’d find at a box store. You can see the full range of gate installation and access control services we offer on our dedicated page.

Our Install Process

Measure & Layout – We come out, walk the property, mark post locations, confirm gate placement, and check for any utility lines or grade changes.

Quote – You get a written estimate with line items for materials, posts, panels, gates, hardware, and finish. No surprises.

Post Setting – Steel posts set in concrete at proper depth for your soil type and fence height. This is where longevity starts.

Panel & Rail Install – Panels mounted level and plumb, even on slopes. We rack panels to follow grade changes or step them for a cleaner look, depending on your preference and the terrain.

Gates & Hardware – Hung, aligned, and tested. Self-closing mechanisms adjusted so they latch every time.

Final Walkthrough – We clean up the site, do a full quality check, and make sure you’re happy with everything before we leave.

What Affects Pricing

Linear footage is the biggest factor, but a few other things move the number:

  • Fence height (4′, 5′, or 6′) and picket style
  • Gate quantity, width, and whether you want motorized access
  • Decorative elements like rings, scrolls, or custom finials
  • Terrain, slopes, and rock in the post holes (welcome to Texas)
  • Masonry columns or a stone base wall can also affect pricing

We’ll give you a written estimate after we measure. We also offer financing with rates and terms based on credit approval.

If you’re replacing an old fence, our fence replacement service includes full tear-out and haul-off.

Permits, HOAs, and Property Lines

Most cities in DFW require a permit for fences over a certain height, and wrought iron is no exception. HOAs often have rules about style, height, and color too. We deal with this stuff constantly, so we can tell you pretty quickly what’s allowed on your property. We put together a city-by-city guide to fence rules and HOAs in DFW that covers Arlington, Grand Prairie, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, Mansfield, and Dallas. If your boundary lines are unclear, we recommend getting a survey before we start. Saves headaches later.

FAQs

How long does a wrought iron fence last?

With galvanized steel and powder coating, you’re looking at 20 to 30 years, sometimes longer. Touch-up paint on scratches and an occasional wash is really all the maintenance there is.

Will wrought iron rust?

Not if it’s galvanized and powder coated properly. If the finish gets chipped or scratched down to bare metal, you’ll want to touch it up so rust doesn’t get a foothold. But that’s a five-minute fix with a brush.

Can you install wrought iron on a slope?

Yes. We either rack the panels to follow the grade or step them for a stair-step look. Depends on the slope and what you prefer visually.

Do you build wrought iron pool fences to code?

Every time. Picket spacing, gate latching height, self-closing hinges. We know the requirements and build to them. You can read more about our pool fence installation process if you want the full breakdown.

Can I add a wrought iron fence to an existing masonry wall?

Absolutely. Iron on top of a stone or brick base is one of the best-looking combinations out there. We mount directly to the masonry with proper anchoring.

Do you do repairs on existing wrought iron fences?

If you’ve got a section that’s damaged or rusted out, we can usually repair or replace just that part without redoing the whole fence. Send me some photos and I’ll let you know what makes sense.
